DISCOVER

We respect each child as a unique individual with great potential.  Our curriculum utilizes hands-on Montessori materials, peer learning, and adaptive online programs for self-paced development of language and math skills.

In Discover, children develop collaboration and planning expertise as they play games and build a variety of structures from pipes, straws, blocks, sticks, and more!  Real-world skill evolution is integrated into our program including:

  • Negotiation
  • Problem solving
  • Conflict resolution
  • Perseverance

Our youngest learners spend much of their time figuring out how to be a good friend. They develop a growth mindset where they are willing to learn from mistakes and practice kindness, empathy, and mindfulness.

We foster curiosity, creativity and character development.  We treasure the arts and incorporate opportunities to explore music and art in our sessions.  Free play, both outside and in, are built into our days.

Acton Academy Charleston brings joy to the school learning experience and encourages children to become creative problem solvers and independent thinkers.

EXPLORE

Imagine a school where young people are respected as capable human beings on a journey of discovery. That school is Acton Academy Charleston.

Upper Elementary learners proceed through core skills at their own pace thanks to the latest educational technology.  Guides help children set goals of mastery and encourage young heroes to find their special calling in life.  Socratic discussions develop the habit of asking good questions and provide practice for how to think, rather than what to think.

Explore focuses on hard work, accountability, bravery, teamwork, leadership, creativity and personal passions.  Our learners appreciate the games that are incorporated into the studio and that they have freedom within boundaries.  The real-world skills that are developed in Discover continue to be honed in Explore.  There is no homework or frequent testing.

Our curriculum includes not only online math and reading programs, but also Civilizations, peer-inspired writing, physical development, art, music, theater, and Quests.  Science and entrepreneurship are explored through session-long Quests that end in a public exhibition.  A “failed” quest is seen as an opportunity to learn more, continuing our emphasis on growth mindset.
